Proof Ronald Reagan Presidential Dollars (Buy on eBay) are special collectible versions of the standard circulating coin.
The United States Mint creates specially minted Proof coins with a sharp relief on polished and treated blanks. These coins have frosted raised design elements and mirrored background, which results in a striking cameo effect.
Proof Gerald R. Ford Presidential Dollars were originally available as part of the 2016 Presidential Dollar Proof Set, the 2016 Proof Set, and the 2016 Silver Proof Set issued directly by the U.S. Mint. Additionally, they were sold as individual coins. Sales for the 2016 Proof Presidential Dollar Set increased from the previous year, reaching 231,549.
On October 11, 2016, the Mint offered a 2016 Ronald Reagan Presidential Dollar Coin and Chronicles Set with a production limit of 150,000 units—much higher than any set prior. The set included the 2016 Ronald Reagan Reverse Proof Presidential Dollar and a 2016 Proof American Silver Eagle instead of a silver medal, and other items, all priced at $68.95. It sold just 21,000 sets on the first day and ultimately sold only 47,447 sets, failing to sell out.
The date, mint mark, and the motto “E Pluribus Unum” are located on the edge inscription of the coin. The Mint also created special packaging for Proof Sets so that collectors can view the edges of the coins.
Ronald Reagan’s Background:
Ronald Reagan is remembered as being a very popular president. During his presidency, he implemented a political agenda known as Reagonomics, which included tax cuts, deregulation, and increased military spending. His administration also played a significant role in ending the Cold War. During his second term, he began diplomatic talks with the Soviet Union on arms control and other issues. In addition, the Commemorative Coin Program was relaunched for the first time since 1954 with the 1982 George Washington Half Dollar. The American Silver Eagle and the American Gold Eagle programs were also launched in 1986.
