Proof Abraham Lincoln Presidential Dollars (Buy on eBay) are special collectible versions of the standard circulating coin.
The United States Mint creates specially minted Proof coins with a sharp relief on polished and treated blanks. These coins have frosted raised design elements and mirrored background, which results in a striking cameo effect.
Proof Abraham Lincoln Presidential Dollars were originally available as part of the 2010 Presidential Dollar Proof Set, the 2010 Proof Set, and the 2010 Silver Proof Set, issued directly by the U.S. Mint. Additionally, they were sold as individual coins.
The date, mint mark, and the motto “E Pluribus Unum” are located on the edge inscription of the coin. The Mint also created special packaging for Proof Sets so that collectors can view the edges of the coins.
Abraham Lincoln’s Background:
Born into a poor frontier family, Abraham Lincoln would become a self taught lawyer and serve in the Illinois legislature and the House of Representatives. While campaigning for the Senate, his debates on slavery with Stephen A. Douglas brought him to national attention and helped secure the Republican presidential nomination. After being elected, his first term would be dominated by the American Civil War and efforts to abolish slavery. Lincoln would be assassinated just weeks into his second term, as the war was drawing to an end.
“I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live up to what light I have.”
